Why I'm Not Social Media Famous

I've been asked more than a few times by publishers and potential employers or clients, why don't I have a larger social media following. The answer is simple- I don't want one.
I have no intention of being social media famous. I have nothing to be famous or well-known for. I could put a lot of work into being a social media influencer, and blog, Tweet, Pin, post, etc all about social media. But I don't want to. That space is already filled with plenty of excellent experts. The world doesn't need another person weighing in on the pro's and cons of the latest Facebook feature. I'm happy to share those articles with my friends and followers. But I have little interest in being the person to write those articles.
The same goes for being an author. I could put a lot of time and effort into becoming a writing "authority." But again, that space is rather overrun, and quite frankly, boring. Who really wants to write about writing anyway? I'd rather be writing what's in my imagination, or about my latest obsession.
So why don't I have thousands and thousands of blog readers? Because no one would be the better for it. Not me, not them. I am flattered that I do have a fairly large number of Twitter and Pinterest followers.
I'd rather put my time and skills into building up a following for my clients, instead of for me.
